Salles Proud History Celebrated

SALLES PROUD 60 year Churchtown Rugby History to be celebrated...

At 7.30pm on Friday March 31st at De La Salle College Churchtown, a number of Rugby milestones will be acknowledged, including the official opening of a Captains Board.

The board will list all the Senior Cup Team’s Captains, from the inaugural Senior Cup Team’s in
1956/57 to the current day and has been dedicated in memory of the late Damien McCoy (RIP) who was Captain of the 1986/87 team.

This year is the 60th consecutive season that the proud two times winner of the Leinster Schools Senior Cup have fielded at SCT.

Guest of honour on the night will be Past Pupil & current Connacht winger Niy Adeolokun, who in November earned his first cap for Ireland on the Vs Canada, proudly becoming the colleges 4th Past Pupil to be capped for Ireland.

Adeolokun joined the other three, Des Fitzgerald, Tom Clancy & Brian Glennon, all of whom joined an elite band who have donned both the “Wine & Gold” SCT & Green jerseys.

The college also intends to acknowledge the contribution of a number of its recently retired rugby teachers, including form Irish Schools Manager & current Senior Vice President of The Leinster Branch, Mr Lorcan Balfe (who also coached the DLSC 1985 SCT Leinster Schools Senior Cup winning team) & former Ireland Youths Coach and rugby stalwart of the College Mr Aidan Kenna.

Balfe will become the third Past-Pupil to become President of the Leinster Branch, following Mr Kevin Fitzpatrick (Captain of the 1961-62 SCT Team) & Mr Paul Deering.

Following the presentations, the new training flood lights, will be officially turned on by the current Senior Cup Team Captain Ryan McLoughlin & Leinster u-17 squad member Adam Nealon.

The college would like to stress that the night is open to ALL Past Pupils of the college, with a strong emphasis on those who played Rugby at ANY stage/level during their schooldays in Churchtown, being very warmly invited to attend on the night.

All the SCT Captains are being contacted directly by the College and they in turn have been asked to canvass the players of their own era.
