Fine form for Munster saw Denis elevated to the Irish Senior squad in November 2004. Originally tried out at number six, it soon became apparent to Eddie O’Sullivan that Leamy may provide the perfect replacement to his Munster team-mate Anthony Foley who was the incumbent No8. O’Sullivans hunch paid off and during the 2005 Autumn Internationals Leamy finally took over at the base of the Irish scrum and settled into life at number 8. At Munster, Declan Kidney made sure Leamy would get the broadest possible experience allowing him to play with the backs on occasion. Denis made his international debut in 2004 against the USA and since then has gone on to earn a respectable 43 caps for his country.
