Former Taranaki tighthead prop Michael Bent signed for Leinster in April 2012 on a 2 year contract.
In signing 26 year old Bent, Leinster agreed to allow the player to finish his club commitments before arriving in Dublin in November 2012. Michael played in all 13 first grade games for Taranaki that season and was instrumental in helping his side reach the semi-final of the National Provincial Championship. Tatanaki were beaten in semi-final injury time by Canterbury ending his club’s participation in the competition, it is believed this expedited Bent’s travel plans.

Bent is Irish qualified due to his grandmother and has recently completed his 2nd season with the Hurricanes making six appearances off the bench and has already been linked with a fast-track into the Ireland squad.

Bent announced himself as a powerful scrummager and hard worker in the tight five with a strong 2009 ITM Cup. The Hawera born and raised Bent who had previously played extensively for Taranaki’s age grade and Development sides made his ITM Cup debut at tighthead prop in a championship match against Northland and finished his debut season as Taranaki’s first choice scrum anchor. He carried that form on in amber and black country last season.

After playing his first games for the Hurricanes, Bent linked up with Taranaki in the 2011 ITM Cup. Playing on both sides of the scrum, Bent was a key cog in Taranaki's third place ITM Cup finish and Ranfurly Shield winning season.
