Dempsey set to hang up the boots

Leinster and Ireland fullback Girvan Dempsey has announced that he will retire from the game at the end of the current season

Born on 2nd October 1978 and Educated at Terenure College and the National College of Ireland, Dempsey won his first full International cap as a replacement against Georgia in November 1998 and scored two tries. He became a first choice player in 2000 and played in all five of Ireland’s matches at the 2003 World Cup.

Girvan went on to play 82 times for Ireland scoring that tremendous try in the left corner at Twickenham in 2004 which helped Ireland win their first Triple Crown since 1985.

The Terenure College full-back is in line to make his 175th Leinster appearance this weekend as Leinster bid to maintain their position at the top of the Magners League. He made his debut in September 1996 and he has scored 32 career tries and kicked 35 points to date.
